Quoting Basics

There are three basic rules to quoting.

  1. Quotations go INSIDE a sentence. They are NOT a sentence by themselves.
  2. Introduce your quotation! Don’t start a sentence with a quotation. Use words that tell your reader what the quotation is about.
  3. The quotation is immediately followed by the line or page number in parentheses (  ) before the period.
